While Khalia\u00a0couldn\u2019t wait to see what his next surprise was, it had been a long day and she was drowsy. She sighed and shifted closer, the feel of Hunter’s\u00a0strong arm around her and the warmth from the heat vents near the floor lulling her.
\nThere was so much to look forward to over the next couple of weeks.
\nTomorrow they could sleep in as long as they wanted before checking out and heading up to Grace and Alex\u2019s place just outside of Albany. Hunter had taken time off until after the New Year, which was a big deal for him. After spending a couple days with the Titanium crew, he was whisking her away on a surprise honeymoon.
\n\u201cWhat am I supposed to bring on this trip you\u2019ve got planned for us, by the way?\u201d
\n\u201cJust a bikini and a toothbrush.\u201d
\n\u201cI didn\u2019t pack a bikini.\u201d
\n\u201cEven better. You can just stay naked the whole time.\u201d
\nShe laughed softly. \u201cMen are such simple creatures.\u201d
\n\u201cAren\u2019t we?\u201d He hugged her tighter and kissed the top of her head.
\nThe limo made it a few more car lengths before being stopped at yet another red light. Traffic was nuts but she didn\u2019t care, too lost in the magic of the day. She covered a yawn and Hunter leaned back to draw her upper body against his chest.
\nJust as her eyes were drifting closed, the sound of a small engine grew louder as it approached them. She looked at the window just as someone on a motorbike drew up beside them next to Hunter.
\nThe man wore a helmet painted to look like a skull. From the way his head was turned toward them, it appeared like he was staring intently at the tinted windows he couldn\u2019t see through. Looking right at them, that eerie skull leering at them.
\nFear crawled up her spine. She straightened at the same time Hunter turned his head to look.
\nThe man\u2019s hand flashed up, a gun in his grip.
\nHorror crashed through her.
\nShe tensed and sucked in a breath, opened her mouth to scream a warning, but Hunter was already moving. He grabbed her and started to push her flat on the seat, angling his body over hers.
\nBut it was too late.
\nBullets shattered the window, drowning out her terrified screams.<\/p>\n
