When the past isn’t really dead and buried…

After a lifetime of constant danger as an assassin, Ivy is finally safe to step out of the shadows. She’s even considering allowing a man into her life—a sexy former intelligence agent who makes her want more than she’s ever dared hope for. Except he doesn’t know the truth about her past—or what she’s done. She owes him and wants to wipe her slate clean once and for all. But when a past threat suddenly resurfaces, it puts countless lives at stake and threatens to destroy everything she’s built.

No one is safe.

Walker has zero regrets about leaving his intelligence career years ago to take care of his family, but a recent terrorist attack at home thrusts him back into the action. Now recent bombings in the UK all point to one of his former assets—who was supposed to be long dead. Once again he finds himself teamed up with Ivy, the unforgettable and mysterious operative he’s undeniably attracted to. She awakens something inside him he thought was gone forever. But as hot as the unexpected fire burns between them, he knows she’s holding something back. Something big. Even so, he has no choice except to trust her—because they’re running out of time to stop a madman bent on exacting vengeance. And this time, it’s personal.

Walker leaned over her shoulder and reached out a hand to close the laptop.

In the second of shock that followed, the tension in the room turned thick.

She opened her mouth to protest but stilled when he swept her hair aside and nuzzled the back of her neck. “Leave this for now,” he murmured in a deep, quiet voice that sent goosebumps flashing across her skin. “There’s nothing more either of us can do tonight.”

Her eyes fell closed at the feel of his lips on a sensitive spot near her shoulder, the slight prickle of his beard magnifying everything. A torrent of heat rushed through her, settling between her legs in a relentless pulse.

He grasped her right wrist. Tugged, urging her to stand. “It’s late. You need to sleep.”

“I can’t sleep now.” With her strung taut and wanting him this badly? Forget it.

“Bet you can if I help. Come here.”

Her heart thudded hard as he turned her to face him and slid those big, powerful arms around her. Forming a delicious cage she had zero desire to escape from.

They locked gazes for a long, breathless moment, then he enfolded her in a bone-melting hug. One hand cradled the back of her head, pressing her cheek to his chest.

Something twisted deep in her chest. Oh, Walker, don’t do this to me…

Raw lust she could handle. But not this level of tenderness.

“Close your eyes a minute and let your mind be still.” His voice was a dark, velvet caress along her quivering nerve endings.

Her pulse was beating too fast. Her eyes were already closed because he had a terrifying drugging effect on her, and her mind had stopped functioning the instant he’d touched her.

Now she felt like she was floating. Drifting in a warm current.

She slid her hands up his broad back, hungry to explore the feel of him. Breathed in his clean, masculine scent. Absorbed the warmth of his body. The steady beat of his heart thudding beneath her cheek.

“Better now?” he murmured against her hair.

Better, yet worse. So much worse, the building ache spreading outward from her chest. He’d barely touched her and he already had her more aroused than she’d been in forever.

In that moment, she decided that even if things turned to shit later, once she confessed everything, she still couldn’t say no to this. Didn’t want to.

When she nodded, the hand at the back of her head slid into her hair and tipped it backward. Ivy stared up into the deep blue pools of his eyes, felt an answering echo deep inside.

She was lost. Utterly incapable of stopping this as his hold tightened and his mouth came down on hers.

Molten need punched through her, intensified by the way he held her in place, refusing to let her rush as he slowly deepened the kiss. He made it clear he was in charge, the erotic seduction of his lips and tongue making her belly flip as though she’d just plunged six floors in a runaway elevator.
