Star-crossed lovers…

Driven by her traumatic past, Nadia Bishop has dedicated her life to helping children orphaned by war around the globe. She won’t let anything stand in her way—not even the sexy former soldier she left back in the U.S. As one of the most experienced workers in her relief organization, she’s their top choice to send to Kabul as the security situation in Afghanistan teeters on the verge of collapse. She’s helping get children to safety when Callum shows up unexpectedly, igniting an intense longing that makes her question the life she thought she wanted. Then things suddenly spin out of control, and Nadia is forced to make an impossible choice. Now there’s no turning back. Nowhere to run. And her only chance at survival is the man she’s been trying not to fall in love with.

…are about to face the maelstrom of war together.

Former Delta operator Callum Falconer had his fill of combat. Now a highly skilled and respected security contractor, he gets to call the shots and choose the jobs he takes. So when a contract comes up in Kabul, a place he hoped never to see again, he volunteers to lead the security detail for one reason: Nadia. She changed his whole world when they met, making him feel things he never thought possible. Yet the more he wants to hold onto her, the farther she slips out of reach. Then things turn deadly, and nothing else matters but her safety. With Nadia’s life in imminent danger there’s nothing he won’t risk, and no rule he won’t break to get her out alive.

“Because every time I try to make this work, you pull back. Why? What are you so afraid of?” Callum demanded.

I’m afraid you’ll leave me. She choked the words back, horrified by the sudden sting of tears burning the backs of her eyes. “I’m not afraid.” Liar, a voice accused in her mind.

“Then what the hell is it? If you don’t want me, just say it. Say it and let me go once and for all. But don’t keep putting me through this. It’s goddamn cruel.” The pain and anger in his eyes crushed her.

She shook her head, horrified at the pain she’d inflicted, and reached for his shoulder. Desperate to hold on to him. To fix this, stop him from leaving. “Callum, of course I want you—”

Her hand had barely made contact when he went rigid. His jaw tensed, his eyes blazing with a frustrated, molten heat that shoved the breath from her lungs. “Dammit,” he muttered, then his hands were on her.

Pulling her close. Tugging the headscarf away. Plunging into her hair, his long fingers gripping the strands tight as his mouth came down on hers.

Nadia whimpered and grabbed the back of his head, plastering herself to him as fire raced through her. Callum pushed her back against the wall, pinning her there with the length of his body. He wedged his hips between her thighs and lifted her, bringing his erection flush against her groin.

Need slammed into her, dragging a soft cry from her throat. Callum absorbed it, his tongue tangling with hers. Simultaneously easing and fueling the desire tearing through her.

The rough brick caught at the fabric of her top while he took complete possession of her. The kiss was wild and untamed, the edge of desperation to it mixing with the taste of cinnamon and cardamom.

She clung to his broad shoulders, rolling her hips for more friction while the kiss shifted. One arm locked under her ass, the hand in her hair eased, stroked and caressed, his tongue teasing hers. She melted in his hold, something deep inside her chest twisting.

The way Callum held her, the combined power and tenderness and skill, turned her inside out. The rest of the world fell away. There was only him, anchoring her against the cool brick, his teeth nipping so gently at her lower lip before he nibbled his way across her jaw to her neck, finding the exact spot that sent an electric thrill through her.

She gasped, twisted, wanting more. He stilled. She opened her eyes, turned her head to meet his gaze. The torment there was unbearable, layered with a longing echoed inside her.

Slowly, he eased his hold and lowered her until her feet touched the ground. They stared at each other, unmoving, both of them breathing hard.

She would have given anything to be alone with him in a private room with a lock. Then he would have no more doubts about whether she wanted him.

“I better get you back,” he said, pushing away from the wall.
